Listen: Two Underrated Maltese Bands You Should Add To Your Playlist
From Ivan Grech’s Winter Moods to Gozitan band The Travellers and the ‘Reġina’ of the mic Ira Losco, Malta has produced some great musicians and bands over the years.
But what about the up-and-coming, and often-forgotten musical acts on our island? For sure there’s plenty of them.
Today I’ll list two of my favourite and arguably underrated bands from performing across Malta.
From festivals such as Earth Garden to smaller sets at summer hotspot Exiles Paradise aka Shack, these two bands are sure to hit a chord with each and every single one of us.
The five-piece band is led by the soulful vocals of singer Lara Dimech. The band describes themselves as a groovy pop-funk-soul outfit from Malta.
The band themselves consists of Lara Dimech, Gian Privitera, Matthew Pellicano, Gabriel Agius Pascalidis, Jean-Luc Camilleri, and Antonio Borg.
Listen to their latest release ‘Golden’ now.
The band performs in a variety of languages including English, French, Maltese and Spanish and they have a diverse set of band members.
Dario Vella Catano is on vocals and lead guitar. Meanwhile ‘Pupachile’ – born in France to Chilean parents is the band’s high-energy MC and is joined by Spaniard, Camacho Criminal aka ‘TeTe’.
Local James Saliba is the lead guitarist, whilst Marsaxlokk-born Ryan Abela is on drums and percussion instruments.
‘Mur Imma Mur’ should – in my opinion – be selected as the Maltese language song to represent Malta at Eurovision. Whether the band would be interested is another story.
