Local Actor Opens Up About Current Situation In Malta
Revered Maltese actor, Matthew Sant Sultana, breaks away from the comedic aspect we all know and love him for to comment about the current social situation in Malta.
Sant Sultana starts strong with a reference to the passing of Stephen Mangion. The post uses the sarcastic phrase “Trid Tifhem”, meaning “You have to understand” to mock how sympathy is used to pacify those who have any issues. Besides the problem of the capacity at Mater Dei, other issues mentioned were unregulated construction projects, the lack of tidiness in the streets and people being registered under false addresses.
“Jien nifhem, imma l-problema hi li ħadd mhu jifhem lili!” Sant Sultana concludes, translating to “I understand, but the problem is that no one understands me!”
The post gathered hundreds of reactions and many comments. Many people echo these thoughts in the comments, sharing their own experiences of when they have had to understand whilst not being understood.
Following the passing of Stephen Mangion, an independent inquiry has been launched to investigate the cause of his death that could have been avoided. While many have pointed their fingers at the hospital staff, many from the medical sector have commented about how short staffed they are. Others have outlined that the problem is the hospital itself, saying it is not suited for a population of half a million people.
