Malta-Based Researchers Can Now Access Up To €300,000 In New Funding Through Xjenza Malta’s Latest Scheme

Xjenza Malta has just launched a brand-new funding scheme aimed at giving local researchers a bigger seat at the European research and innovation table.
Unveiled at Villa Bighi’s Planetarium Hall on Monday 5th May, the Access2Partnerships (A2P) Scheme will allow Malta-based researchers and innovators to take part in a range of Horizon Europe Partnerships… even in cases where Malta isn’t a formal funding partner.
With up to €300,000 available per project, the scheme is designed to boost Malta’s involvement in international research efforts across key areas including health, energy, climate and mobility, digital tech, food and the environment.
Xjenza Malta is already engaged in several Horizon Europe initiatives — from transforming health systems to driving clean energy transition and building a sustainable blue economy. But limited resources have, until now, restricted broader participation of Maltese researchers and innovators in other European research initiatives. The A2P Scheme aims to change that.

“The A2P Scheme is a testament to Xjenza Malta’s commitment to expanding the country’s role in the European R&I landscape,” said Mr Silvio Scerri, CEO of Xjenza Malta. “It creates a new support pillar for both public and private entities in Malta, enabling broader and more inclusive participation in Horizon Europe Partnerships.”
“Through national funding, Xjenza Malta is opening access to international R&I opportunities that were previously beyond reach,” added Dr Maria Azzopardi, Director of the Internationalisation Unit. “This is about unlocking untapped talent and ensuring Malta’s valuable research potential is not left behind.”
Applications for the A2P Scheme are open until the end of 2025, or until all funds are allocated.
