Maltese Host’s Worst Nightmare Comes True As Guest Vandalises Bathroom
A Maltese hostel had a nightmare guest experience last weekend after a guest vandalised one of their bathrooms by spraying graffiti all over the walls before departing.
The hostel, which is located in the St. Julian’s area, had refused to let the guest stay longer without paying for his extension. A Facebook post shared yesterday by the hostel’s receptionist elaborated on the situation. “He said he lost his credit card, but this was not the first time he had issues paying the rent, so we kindly asked him to finish his stay and leave.”
The post gained a lot of traction, being shared more than 450 times in the first 24 hours.
Lovin Malta reached out to the hostel for more information on the episode.
“He did that while another 11 people where sleeping in the same room, which is highly unethical and irresponsible,” the hostel’s General Manager told Lovin Malta. “Payment is on arrival or extension. He did not want to pay his extension for the seven days that he had, so I offered him just to pay us each night because we understand that some people have cash problems. He decided to check out instead, and he left that fiasco.”
Yesterday, a police report was filed, and the hostel released information on the guest to raise awareness with any other potential hostels and landlords. “His name is Antoine Rene Delestre, a 27-year-old from France. He is seeking an apartment in areas like St. Julian’s, Sliema, Valletta or Marsascala. So be careful; we don’t want you to go through what we did this morning.”
“We’re not trying to get anything out of this,” the hostel’s GM told Lovin Malta. “We just don’t want anyone to end up in the same situation.”
