Malta International Airport Just Had Its Best May Ever, Registering A Record-Breaking Number Of Passengers
In May, more than 670,000 passengers travelled between Malta International Airport and one of the many destinations connected to the island. This means MIA experienced a 4.8 per cent growth in passenger traffic when compared to the same month last year.
“This is positive news for Malta as the new routes which were introduced in April as part of the Summer Schedule are bearing successful results,” Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi told Lovin Malta following the announcement of the record numbers.
And when it comes to travellers, the UK, Italy, Germany, France and Spain registered as the top contributors to local passenger traffic. Spain experienced the fastest growth when it comes to the top five markets.
The airport’s two biggest markets are being served by a total of six new routes this summer: Exeter, Cardiff, Perugia, Lamezia, Verona and Genoa. While the first four routes were launched in April, the first flights from Verona and Genoa were welcomed earlier this week.
With the May results included, Malta’s already hosted 2.5 million passenger movements this year, and Malta is on track to have an even bigger summer than last year’s.
