Malta’s Airport Gears Up For Busiest Day Of 2018 With Nearly 200 Take-Offs And Landings In 24 Hours

August is always one of the busiest months of travel around the world, and the Malta International Airport sure isn’t an exception.

With Santa Marija shaping up to yet again be one of the busiest weeks of the year, August Rush is expected to peak on 19th August.

It’s expected that around 28,000 passengers will be using our airport this Sunday, with an insane 180 projected aircraft take-offs and landings projected over 24 hours.

August is the busiest month of the year for the Malta International Airport as families tend to travel during this time, which also means more children passing through the terminal.

It is estimated that by the end of August, over 36,000 children will be passing through the terminal, along with their parents.

In order to prepare for this insanity, MIA are strategically placing helpful employees at different points in the airport to offer a helping hand to anyone who may need it. There will also be free treats and refreshments for passengers waiting to board their plane.

Musical entertainment by Joe Roscoe, delicious Maltese treats and free ice cream will also be distributed to the passengers.

Everyone who plans on flying during this super busy week and does not want to spend ages at the security area should seriously heed some of the MIA’s tips for travelling, an extra precaution the airport has rolled out to improve efficiency.

Passengers are advised to carry all liquids in clear bags and in hand luggages. Do not wear excessive jewellery, since you’ll need to take all of it off for the metal detectors anyway. Wear easy to remove shoes, since removing them might also be something you’re requested to do.

You’re allowed to carry food in your hand luggage if it’s not runny, and if you’re travelling with a baby, you’re only permitted to have enough food and drinks for the duration of your trip.

Keep your gifts unwrapped as security might ask for a closer look.
