Malta’s Farmers To Hold Second Protest Tomorrow, Rallying From Ta’ Qali To Valletta
Get ready for another Farmers’ rally tomorrow organised by Għaqda Bdiewa Attivi, an initiative which underscores the steadfast opposition of local food producers to the EU’s existing framework and future ambitions “that are seriously threatening the livelihoods of farmers.”
Following the 2nd February demonstration which saw Malta’s farmers joining the Europe-wide protests, Għaqda Bdiewa Attivi has just revealed that it will be organising another rally “to build on the purpose and momentum” gained by the earlier demonstration.
This time around however, the organisation will be proposing various solutions and putting forward a number of proposals to the Government “to assist in the buffering of the impact of such EU regulations and plans”.
The rally of both agricultural and non-agricultural vehicles, will once again commence from Ta’ Qali car park at 11.45am and traverse through Attard, Mrieħel Bypass, Marsa-Ħamrun Bypass, Alda Moro Road in Marsa, Blata l-Bajda, and Floriana, culminating its journey in Valletta at around 2pm.
Upon arrival, vehicles will be parked, and a press conference will be held to address pertinent issues and articulate the collective demands of the local food producers.
Farmers throughout the European Union are voicing concerns over declining sale prices, escalating expenses, stringent regulations, dominant retailers, indebtedness, climate variability, and inexpensive foreign imports. These grievances have sparked demonstrations in various member states, including Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, and Romania.
