Malta’s biggest gay club, AXM in Paceville, is closing down as the general manager will be leaving the island to live in Asia with his partner.
“My time has now come to an end at AXM Malta and Malta itself. I have made the decision to explore other parts of the world which I have been planning to do for a long while. Unfortunately, with this, the owners of AXM have decided to close the doors to AXM Malta for the final time,” the club’s manager David Chafer announced on Facebook.
“I am sorry for anyone who is disheartened or disappointed with this as we didn’t want to let anyone down especially due to the fact that we have worked so hard for AXM Malta and we know it plays a huge part of the LGBTIQ community in this country,” he added, as he thanked people who supported AXM along the way.
AXM will remain open until Saturday when it will host a big closing party before shutting its doors for the last time. Special offers will be given to “regular customers and friends” as the club hopes to give itself a big sending off.
However, Chafer is optimistic that the club will one day reopen. “Don’t give up hope yet,” he said, “I know AXM will be back one day.”
AXM was one of Malta’s very gay hotspots with many regular events held there. Russell Sammut from gaymalta.com told Lovin Malta that ARC and Lollipop will continue to host their regular monthly events elsewhere.
If this story has got you feeling down, don’t worry; two other gay clubs, Michelangelo in Paceville and Rubies in San Ġwann are still be open for fabulous business!
