Malta’s Schools Promised €500,000 Investment To Provide Free Menstrual Products

Malta’s schools have been promised a half a million Euro investment to provide free menstrual products for their students.
This was announced by Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms Rebecca Buttigieg as part of the measures for the Budget 2024, a measure which was initially mentioned in Labour’s 2022 electoral manifesto.
“With an allocation of half a million Euro, we’re going to be launching this pilot project in schools by providing free menstrual products for young women so that we eliminate the stigma associated with this natural process,” Buttigieg said earlier today.
Menstrual stigma refers to the social and cultural taboos, misconceptions, discrimination, and negative attitudes that surround menstruation.
The initiative had already been announced as part of the electoral manifesto, and again earlier this year following menstrual hygiene day. A commencement date has not yet been declared.
