Maltese Man Begs Court For Help As He Pleads Guilty To Owning And Sharing Child Pornography
A Maltese man has asked the Maltese courts to help him overcome his child pornography addiction after pleading guilty to the possession and sharing of illicit images of underage children performing sexual acts.
Kevin Mifsud, a 44-year-old man from Siggiewi, was arrested after police were given an anonymous tip-off about the material on Mifsud’s computer. Upon examining his computer, a collection of child pornography was discovered, with the the material found to be featuring foreign children.
He was charged with downloading a series of images and videos that depicted illegal sexual acts performed by children onto his personal computer.
Mifsud’s lawyers, Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri, told the court their client’s problems stemmed from a serious psychological problem, and also asked the courts to assist their client in overcoming his addiction. Prosecutors reiterated that Mifsud had them asked for help as well.
In her judgement, magistrate Rachel Montebello sentenced Mifsud to two years in prison, suspended for four years. He was also ordered to undergo treatment such as compulsory counselling, psychotherapy, and other types of medical assistance to combat his psychological problem.
The court also ordered that the pornography be confiscated and destroyed in its entirety.
