Maltese Masterminds Behind Daphne Assassination Are Identified
Europol and top Maltese investigators are closer to solving the case
The Times of Malta have reported that a group of two or more Maltese men have been identified as the masterminds behind the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Investigators believe that a group of men with different intents for wanting to kill the journalist got together to plot Daphne's murder and hired three men to plant and trigger the bomb.
Whether these men have political, business or criminal affiliations was not confirmed as yet. The financial evidence that has been piled together to confirm these allegation is not concrete yet, either. Investigators have more evidence in hand but nothing that can be made public at this moment.
Malta's top criminal investigators and Europol are working closely together as they get closer to cracking the case. Large amounts of data are currently being analysed by Europol and Maltese investigators.
Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed just outside her home a year ago, when a bomb went off in her rented car. Her death stirred a frenzy of public outrage in Malta and internationally.
Last December, the investigators were able to identify brothers Alfred and George Degiorgio and Vincent Muscat, and were accused for carrying out the car bomb murder. They pleaded not guilty and have been in custody for 11 months.
