On the 18th and 19th of November, Tigné Point will be hosting an outdoor event for the 25th Anniversary of World Remembrance Day of Road Traffic Victims. The World Health Organisation and the Ministry for Health Malta will be organising this two-day event to promote road safety.

Anyone who has lost a loved one to a traffic accident is invited to join. Attendees are asked to bring along a photo of their lost loved one and a candle.

On the 18th, workshops will be organised to promote road safety, commemorate lives lost to traffic accidents, create awareness among local authorities and promote evidence-based solutions based on the Save LIVES package.

The event will take place from 3pm onwards at The Point, and will also include a Remembrance Walk to raise awareness among the public about the dangers of drunk driving.

On the 19th there will be an international conference at the Grand Hotel Excelsior. The deputy Prime Minister and the UN Secretary General Special Envoy on Road Safety, Jean Todt, will also be present. Todt is an ex-Grand Prix driver who now promotes road safety with the United Nations. Other international speakers will also be present at the event.

This event is aimed at increasing road safety and to further promote the role of our country’s contribution in international health. The UN Decade of Action for Road Safety and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development includes a target to reduce road traffic deaths around the world by 50% by 2020. And seeing as over 84,000 people die from road traffic injuries every year in the WHO European Region alone, this issue definitely merits a vital part in the agenda.

This event will be sponsored by the Tara Malou Licari Road Safety Fund in collaboration with United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, FEVR and the Ministry of Health.
