Marsaskala Woman Made To Jump Through Hoops After Spotting Dead Animal In Garbage Bag

A Marsaskala resident who came across a dead animal unceremoniously dumped in a black bin bag was made to jump through several hoops to get it removed.

The woman posted a disturbing image to social media of a black bin bag and what looks like an animal’s paw emerging out of it.

The caption read: “I am sorry for starting your day on a bad note, but I can’t believe the lows humans manage to stoop to sometimes”.

Lovin Malta reached out to woman who informed the newsroom that she came across the horrifying scenario at around 10am yesterday while walking her dog with her child in Marsaskala.

What followed was a game of Telephone played between the woman and a handful of entities, all pointing fingers at one another.

“When I saw the bin bag and what looked like a paw emerging from it, I was in such a state of shock that I took my daughter home, along with the dog and returned to the scene shortly after,” she said.

“I didn’t know what to do so I called Animal Welfare who asked me whether the animal was still alive,” the woman told the newsroom.

When she shook the bin to see if there would be any movement from the animal, there was none, so the animal was assumed dead.

She informed Animal Welfare, who told her that there was nothing they could do about the situation since the animal was dead.

The woman then proceeded to ask whether an investigation into the situation would be initiated since the animal could have been killed by someone, or perhaps disposed of irresponsibly.

Animal Welfare then informed the woman that there was nothing they could do and that she should contact the police.

The Marsaskala resident then detailed how the police “almost laughed” at her when she described the situation to them, and told her “if Animal Welfare couldn’t do anything about it, what do you want us to do?”

She then asked the police whether they were going to issue an investigation into the matter and get to the bottom of how the animal ended up in the garbage bag.

“Perhaps you could ask the neighbours for security footage,” she suggested, to which the police replied that she has to “file a police report”.

She was then told to call the number 1718, that is Malta’s cleansing department, who told the woman that Triq id-Dolmen in Marsaskala, where the bin was located, was not their responsibility, but rather that of the local council.

Frustrated, the woman called the Marsaskala local council asking them to remove the bin bag containing the animal which was lying on the pavement.

Once again, the woman’s request fell on deaf ears, with the local council telling her that “her needs wouldn’t be met on that particular day”.

For this reason, the woman took her frustrations with the authorities to social media, saying that while she plans on filing a police report, “she doubts whether the matter will actually be taken seriously”.

Up until this morning, the garbage bag remained where it was left off, the woman confirmed.
