Increasing traffic at Malta International Airport has been registered for dozens of months now, but MIA has just broken not only recent records… but every single previous record in the nation’s history.
A staggering 756,356 passenger movements have just been registered in one month.
The record-breaking number of passengers was registered for July, by far one of the busiest months for travel all around the world.
The number marks a 12.1% increase in numbers this year, with the previous highest record being held by August 2017.
A total of 173,007 passengers travelled to the United Kingdom
The top destination spots still remain the same as last year’s, with the UK being the most favoured destination among locals. Followed by Italy, Germany, France and Spain.
Germany’s passenger movements decreased by 4.3%
There was also an 11.3% increase in aircraft movements and an 11.5% rise in seat capacity.
Since both July and August are peak holiday seasons, the number is expected to go even higher in August.
