Yesterday, the Mtarfa Youth football club launched their campaign to clean up Malta (#SaveTheEnvironmentTogether) with an all-day clean up in the area around their pitches.

Mtarfa’s local council praised the initiative and advised parents sending their children to events or training to provide alternatives to single-use plastic bottles.

The group of young football enthusiasts and their coaches joined together to collect the waste, noting the majority of which was plastic.

Because of this, the campaign was launched in an attempt to pave the way towards a greener planet for all. Yesterday’s event is one of many planned that will take place throughout the season with the intention of educating as may people as possible, with the adults taking responsibility for the future that their kids will step into.

“We are those that have to educate the kids of today and the leaders of tomorrow.”

During the event, the club placed posters around their pitches with one very loud and clear message: “We need to save our planet – pick up your plastic and recycle it or simply opt for something biodegradable.”
