Muscat’s Marċ: ‘Invictus’ Memorialised In Master’s Composition Announced On Former PM’s Birthday

Joseph Muscat has just made sure we never forget his ‘Invictus’ moment, and no, not because he tattooed the word on his arm.

This time, it’s because he has had a whole song written about him by Maestro David Aguis, entitled- wait for it- Invictus.

The former Prime Minister took to his social media to announce that for his 50th birthday, which he celebrated yesterday, he received “a very special gift” from a dear friend Maestro David Agius.

Revealing that the pair had been discussing this for a year, Muscat said that Aguis had composed a piece especially to honour the former Prime Minister.

Muscat shared a photo of the right-hand page of the score, entitled ‘Invictus’- a word which Muscat famously tattooed on his arm, and means ‘undefeated’.

What is unclear is whether the musical composition was commissioned by Muscat himself or was the innovative work of the composer.

While many took to the comments under Muscat’s post to congratulate the former prime minister on his birthday and this unique way of celebrating his 50th, others just quite couldn’t believe their eyes and said they thought it was satire. And let’s face it, the fact that the whole page was written in Comic Sans probably didn’t help.

Agius is the Musical Director of two band clubs: the King George V Band in Mqabba and the Żejtun Band, a band founded by the Labour Party.

He is also a board member of the Maltese National Commission for UNESCO, and was previously a member of the Festivals Malta board.
