At least 149 migrants were rescued around 96km off Malta’s coasts on Tuesday evening. They were found in a small dinghy and determined to be in a dangerous and life-threatening situation, and are now being brought to Malta for processing.
A patrol boat was sent out by the Armed Forces of Malta to assist and rescue the migrants, who were found to be in need of help and in difficulty. They are currently being taken to Hay Wharf in Valletta.
It is as yet unknown where the migrants came from.
This rescue comes after Malta recently rescued another boat of 44 migrants that had found themselves in difficulty just off the coast of Malta.
