New Floor Reported To Have “Caved In” Amid Ongoing Restoration At St John’s Co-Cathedral – ADPD Calls For Investigation

Raised flooring installed in the Bartolott Crypt at the historic St John’s Co-Cathedral allegedly caved in, raising questions about the management of the restoration project.
Concerns had supposedly already been voiced beforehand about the flooring due to its weight, however, despite the pleas the project continued, The Shift News reported yesterday morning.
The mishap was said to have been attributed to design flaws by the project’s architects, according to insiders of the news portal. However, the Foundation of St. John’s Co-Cathedral, led by Monsignor Emmanuel Agius, the archbishop’s representative, was accused of keeping these findings from the public.
The installation was reported to have proceeded sometime around April 2024, with the collapse happening soon after, damaging the centuries-old crypt, in which an approximate 600 Knights from the Order of St John were laid to rest.

Although significant time has passed, the news portal reported that “the situation has yet to be fully resolved.”
When The Shift contacted the parties responsible for the site, no follow-up or reply from them was reported, raising questions about the management and the use of funds allocated to the project.
ADPD – The Green Party has since weighed in on the situation, asking for an investigation to be launched by the Ombudsman to determine who’s at fault, if any.
