New Political Party Aims To Rise To The Ranks Of Current Major Parties With ‘Progressive’ Ideals
A newly emerging centre-left political party has been announced and aims to challenge Malta’s established political dominance.”
The Partit Malta Progressiva (PMP), also referred to as il-Progressivi, has been in the works for months, with its statute set to be finalised and launched in January as reported by Times of Malta.
“We are change-makers. Malta’s transformation starts now,” the party’s Instagram profile reads, “Join the movement for social and ecological progress.”
Despite its emergence and small size, the party refuses to be deemed as “just another small party” and ensures that it will bring forward a new way of leading in contrast to the current Labour Party (PL) and the “conservative” methods of the Nationalist Party (PN).
The party is set to include members from diverse political backgrounds, such as former officials from the Greens party as well as Labour, one of which being Cyrus Engerer, as reported by the Maltese Herald.
With a primary focus on workers’ rights, social justice, good governance, human rights, environment conservation and reproductive rights the party sticks true to its name, having supposedly also been in talks with potential backers from activist groups of the causes.
However, as of yet, an official leader of PMP has not been announced, however, sources have hinted that two have the potential to step up to the leading role.
