‘Not Allowed To Rest In Our Own Homes’: Valletta Resident’s Life Shaken By Loud Businesses
Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has received a copy of an anonymous letter from a Valletta resident claiming to have been driven beyond breaking point by rules allowing bars to play music outdoors until one in the morning.
If the deeply infuriated letter is to be believed, the letter was sent to Prime Minister Robert Abela, and “the rest of his failing cabinet”.
“This is not a way of trying to taint your already crooked political careers, no. This is simply a mere mortal, a normal daily-struggling citizen, expressing her disgust while listing all the truth she has to suffer on a daily basis due to your terroristic ways” reads the letter, shared by Arnold Cassola on social media.
It should be noted that Lovin Malta has not been able to verify the legitimacy of this letter, and Arnold Cassola did not claim to have done so either, but instead interpreted it as indicative of the “desperation of Valletta residents”.
“I raise my disabled son alone. I got ‘lucky’ with social accommodation in Valletta and every day, I go out to work and struggle to do my best to give a better life to my son. Everything was normal, until you crooks decided to take a basic right from THOUSANDS of Valletta residents: you decided that we are not allowed to rest in our own homes.”
“You decided that we are at the mercy of the new bar owners who opened up all over Valletta. Sleep deprivation is now an enforced punishment you bestowed upon us.”
“You and that useless corrupt mayor have failed the capital city. You and that useless corrupt mayor have failed its illustrious history. But worse than all, you and that useless corrupt mayor have failed its residents!”
“I don’t know where you find the courage to show your face on TV, trying to fool us all about how much your government takes mental health seriously and wants to do its best to help and stop suicide.”
“You want to stop suicide? Stop what you have created! Residents are going crazy! I’ve heard some of them say: ‘someday I will pour petrol allover the bar and myself and set it all on fire. At least I would have rested’.”
“You are putting everyone’s life at risk. I’m curious how you or anyone of the corrupted ministers would feel or react should a bar open under your houses and stop you from resting!”
“I know your answers: ‘You live in government property, if you don’t like it, you can leave’, That was the reply I got!”
“I would like to invite you to spend a week in my apartment. Since it is ‘yours’, you can see if you can stay healthy with music playing from seven am till four am everyday. I would invite you, but you all disgust me, and don’t want you or any of your corrupt criminals near my disabled son.”
The letter repeatedly asserts that music is being played until four in the morning, and that this is legal. While music may well be playing late into the morning, the legal limit is one am.
“You have not only destroyed Valletta, but residents and families. You decided that hundreds don’t have the right to rest and you think it’s ok! But don’t worry… karma is a bitch, they say.”
“Yes, you will win the next election but only because the Maltese population is of a record breaking stupidity and brainless brainwashed dummies. When I was living on the streets there was less criminality and corruption. I felt safer.”
If you are the author of this letter, do not hesitate to get in touch.
