Nursing Aid Dies After Being Hit By Ambulance

A nursing aid from Bormla lost his life yesterday after being hit by an ambulance while he was walking close to Mater Dei Hospital.

Yesterday at around 5pm, Police were informed of a traffic accident in the limits of the hospital.

Police immediately convened at the location, where they found out that Joseph Grech, a 48-year-old man resident in Bormla and a 54-year-old Romanian woman resident in San Pawl il-Baħar were hit by an ambulance driven by a 36-year-old man resident in Żejtun.

The pair received immediate medical assistance. Unfortunately, the man was certified as having lost his life on the spot. Meanwhile, the woman was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for further medical assistance, and her injuries were certified as grievous.

The man’s Facebook feed was inundated with touching tributes. with many admitting their shock at what happened and telling him to “look out for his wife and son”.

Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonniċi is leading an inquiry into the case, while police investigations are ongoing.

Lovin Malta extends its condolences to the man’s family and wishes the woman a speedy recovery.
