There has been an outpouring of grief after a four-year-old boy died from meningitis in Mater Dei yesterday.

He was rushed to hospital for medical assistance in the last few days after he showed symptoms of the infection, which can often be deadly. He was brought into hospital with invasive pneumonia, TVM reported, before his condition worsened.

Authorities reacted quickly to the child’s condition when they found out about his severity

It was reported that authorities reached out to the school the child was enrolled in and spoke to the parents of schoolchildren who were in the class with him to check if any other children were exhibiting symptoms. If any children were, they were advised to speak to a doctor immediately.

However, authorities have said that it is rare for meningitis to be transmitted from one person to another, and parents need not be alarmed.

Many left their messages of condolences when they heard the news
