Since Malta’s online police reporting system went live in July, people have filed over 1,700 reports without stepping foot in a police station.

According to new data shared in parliament, 1,796 reports were filed as of 22nd October – a solid average of 128 reports a week.

Answering a question from Labour MP Davina Sammut Hili, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri explained that the platform was launched to make reporting crimes easier and more efficient.

While a previous version existed, it often left users frustrated, as many reports needed extra details and a follow-up visit to a police station.

This new system on the Malta Police Force’s website walks users through the reporting process, with each report reviewed by an officer before it hits the official police database.

It’s geared for minor incidents but can handle serious reports, too. However, if it’s urgent, the system will direct users to dial 112 for immediate help.

The system is proving to be a step forward in accessible, hassle-free crime reporting, all from the comfort of home.

Have you made use of this system?
