Over 1,800 homeowners applied for the First-Time Buyers’ grant in 2023, as revealed by Minister for Social and Affordable Accommodation Roderick Galdes.

This grant, introduced as part of the Labour Party’s electoral manifesto pledge, is in its second year and offers first-time buyers a €1,000 annual payment for 10 years, totalling €10,000.

“This year, starting from June, first-time property purchasers from last year will receive their initial €1,000 instalment, part of a decade-long support scheme,” Galdes said in a statement earlier today.

He went on to say that “a key economic advantage of this initiative is the contribution to our country’s homeownership rate, which stands at 82% – among the highest in Europe.”

The Minister urged those first-time buyers who purchased a property in 2023 and who have not yet applied for the grant to do so by no later than the end of April.

Galdes revealed that over 2,800 people had applied for the grant in its inaugural year of implementation. These individuals have received their first instalment of €1,000 as part of this scheme and will receive the second of ten payments this year.
