Over 3,000 Visitors Attend Open Day At Fort Manoel To Explore Restoration Efforts

More than 3,000 visitors gathered to experience the historic site and its newly restored features on a recent open day at Fort Manoel in Gżira.
The event provided a unique opportunity for the public to explore the fort’s impressive restoration efforts, which have brought its historical architecture back to life. Visitors were offered four complimentary guided tours, where they learned about the fort’s importance as an example of Malta’s baroque military architecture.
The open day also featured a static display organised by developers MIDI, showcasing plans for the ongoing Manoel Island project. The display highlighted how the development will integrate large open spaces with residential and mixed-use buildings, while preserving the island’s rich history.
The overall project is set to cover 175,000 square metres of public open spaces, which will account for 60% of the land within MIDI’s concession. A significant portion of this will include an 80,000-square-metre natural glacis park.
In addition to the open spaces, the development plans prioritise minimising the environmental impact of new construction. The footprint of the new buildings is expected to cover just 8% of the total area of MIDI’s concession, ensuring that the historical and natural aspects of the site remain a prominent feature.
The event at Fort Manoel provided insight into the site’s restoration and demonstrated how the future development of Manoel Island is predicted to harmonise modern living with the island’s historical heritage.
