Over €5,000 Raised For Fatal St Paul’s Bay Crash Victim’s Cremation And Legal Fees Ahead Of ‘Final Ride’
Following the tragic death of motorcyclist, Dieter Vink, his family and close friends are setting up a fundraiser for his cremation and “legal expenses towards justice.”
The 54-year-old motorcyclist had unfortunately succumbed to his injuries in hospital, following a collision with a stationery skip that had been left on a blind bend on the St Paul’s Bay Bypass on 12th December.
The skip in question was revealed to have been left on the road without a permit, a fact that has since sparked major controversy and upset. Despite this, the contractors involved have yet to speak out or take accountability.
“Today is a very sad day for all bikers and drivers. The incompetence and severe negligence has resulted that my very good friend Dieter passed away from horrific injuries at such a young age,” said Fleur Cilia Buckett on Facebook, a close friend of Vink’s.
As a fellow biker who’s been a friend of Vink’s for 17 years, Fleur announced she will be organising a bike ride in honour of Vink on 28th December, starting from 12.30pm at Mater Dei Hospital and ending with a candle-lit vigil at Xemxija Pitstop, Dieter’s “second home”.
During the event, attendees are encouraged to donate towards Vink’s funeral and legal costs, an act they can also honour on a GoFundMe page set up by Buckett, as his family are “fighting tooth and nail for justice to be served.”
Fleur added that if all goes according to plan and the cremation is able to happen before the 22nd, his ashes can be honourably spread behind the Pitstop.
The GoFundMe alone has already raised over €5,000 out of their €12,000 goal since its launch yesterday, with the number steadily rising.
Lovin Malta extends its condolences to the family and friends of Dieter in these trying times.
