Paint Mtarfa Green: Residents Caring For 1000 Tree Seedlings Ahead Of Mass Village Planting
If you think you cannot make a difference about Malta’s lack of trees, then spare a thought for the residents of Mtarfa.
Last year, the village’s local council launched an initiative in which it provided residents with seeds and cuttings of indigenous trees and bushes, such as bay trees, carob trees, almond trees and Judas trees. The residents are initially growing them in their own gardens and will eventually transfer them to the local council to be replanted in several locations across the village.
On occasion of World Environment Day, Mtarfa mayor Daniel Attard provided the public with a photo update on the trees, which are already growing into seedlings.
He also confirmed that while the council had originally planned to plant around 300 trees, it has already planted 1000 saplings, around one tree for every three residents.
A truly beautiful initiative and we can think of no better way to mark World Environment Day.
