Two exciting new interactive activities have been launched for the younger generations of our country and they’re all aimed at shedding light on the rich culture and folklore of our nation!

The Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, Owen Bonnici alongside Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, invited children of varying ages to discuss Maltese feasts and their significance.

The event, presented by Ramires Sciberras, was held ahead of the anticipated ‘Fuq il-Festa’ event that will be held on Saturday 19th October in order to celebrate Maltese culture.

During the event, two new activities were launched for the children to interact with. One was a deck of competitive playing cards named ‘Mazz Vari’ depicting iconic statues from Maltese churches, as researched by Noel D’Amato and beautifully illustrated by local artist Iella, overseen by artistic director Sean Buhagiar.

The second installation of the event was a colourful picture book titled ‘Irranġajtni għall-Festi’ featuring a unique story that creatively explores the culture and values that make Maltese feasts special, as captured by artist William Calleja and written by Simon Bartolo.

This celebration of both local culture and talent was with the intention to involve children in Maltese feasts so that they will continue to carry on Maltese traditions and culture from one generation to the next, as explained by Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa.

Minister Owen Bonnici explained how our feasts are no longer just local traditions, but, are now part of the world’s shared cultural heritage. He stressed that this recognition requires us to continue celebrating, preserving, and promoting these traditions in a way that honours their deep cultural significance.

Both activities will be made available for free at the ‘Fuq il-Festa’ event which will be held at Triton Square in Valletta from 7pm till 9pm, featuring interactive workshops for families.

The venue will also see a mass organised by Mons. Pawlu Vella as well as an ensemble of music from classical feast marches performed by local talent and directed by Mro Jonathan Vella among many other attractions.
