Jeremie Camilleri’s sentence for the murder of Pelin Kaya will be handed out in three weeks’ time, on Tuesday 5th March… and he may receive a 37-year sentence after the defence and prosecution reached an agreement.

Last week, 34-year-old Camilleri pleaded guilty to the voluntary killing of Pelin Kaya, who was run over mere hours into her 30th birthday in a murder which shocked the nation in the early hours of 18th January 2023. He ended up having 14 different charges against him, including the threatening of people who rushed to Pelin’s aid, driving under the influence of both cocaine and cannabis, and breaking his probation. During the compilation of evidence, court experts also testified that Camilleri did not apply the breaks when running Kaya over.
Camilleri’s guilty plea came following a pact agreement reached between the prosecution, the defence and the civil party represented by Lawyer Charlon Gouder. Now, it has been reported by NET News that the two parties agreed on the prison sentence, which would see Camilleri being let out of prison when he’s 70 years old.

However, it is worth noting that judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera is not bound by law to respect this agreement.
In fact, she said she would be waiting to announce her sentence on 5th March.
