Minister Byron Camilleri recently shared some numbers while replying to parliamentary questions, on traffic incidents and registrations in Malta, and the results paint quite a picture.

As of June 2025, a total of 7,494 cases were registered between the Malta Police Force and LESA. Of those, 983 were handled by the police, while a whopping 6,511 went through LESA.

For context, last year (2024) saw 2,805 cases with the police and 13,800 with LESA, showing a noticeable drop in numbers compared to previous years.

Looking at the bigger picture, between 2020 and June 2025, the Malta Police Force recorded 15,931 traffic collisions, while LESA logged an even larger 63,609 incidents between April 15, 2020, and June 2025.

Clearly, the numbers show that LESA handles a massive volume of traffic cases compared to the police, reflecting how Malta’s traffic monitoring and reporting system is spread across multiple agencies.
