Police Union Chief Outraged As Officers Are Bitten During Inspection

Three police officers have allegedly been attacked by a Gambian woman during an inspection this morning, the police union chief has said.

Police confirmed that at 9:15am this morning, a routine migration check in Triq il-Vitorja in Qormi turned violent after one Gambian woman became aggressive, with one police officer left with light injuries.

The woman allegedly attacked three police officers – PC 480, PC 1572, and WPC 314. This attack led to one of the officers, PC 1572, being taken for various tests following the incident.

A post by Inspector Sandro Camilleri, the Police Officer’s Union chief, lamented the attacks on Maltese police officers

“During an inspection that was being held this morning in regards to irregular immigrants, our members PC 480, WPC 314 and PC 1572 Eman Cilia were attacked by a woman and suffered a variety of injuries and scratches. PC 1572 was also bitten by this woman and in fact he is undergoing medical tests due to infectious diseases such as HIV,” he said in a public Facebook post.

“Solidarity with our members who were vilely attacked while carrying out their duties while we offer every but of assistance from the Police Officers Union,” he continued.

And some called for strong steps to be taken in response to the attack.
