At a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters, presided over by the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Labour, Dr Byron Camilleri, and the Police Commissioner, Mr Angelo Gafà, two Inspectors were appointed to the rank of Police Superintendents, and 19 constables were promoted to the rank of Sergeants.

In a speech during the ceremony, Minister Dr Byron Camilleri remarked that in recent years the Police Corps has succeeded in reducing the crime rate through a policy of prevention, ranking Malta among the twelve safest countries in the world, while also increasing public confidence. He urged them to continue working to achieve even greater results while being a support and service to society.

In his address, Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà congratulated all officers who received promotions and stated that the Police Corps continues to strengthen its diversity, noting that 38 percent of those promoted are women. This also demonstrates the increasingly central role of women within the Corps.

He further mentioned that today Malta ranks as the seventh country in the European Union with the highest proportion of women in the police.

He also referred to the launch of the Corporate Strategy for the next five years, marking the beginning of a new phase in the operations of the Police Corps. He stressed that the officers who were promoted are the protagonists of this new phase.

Among those attending the promotion ceremony were Members of Parliament and Assistant Commissioners, the Director General of the Police Corps, as well as the Permanent Secretary, among others.
