After seeing their own case go ignored, one of the many victims of Patrick Mangion’s crimes over two decades has little hope that the career criminal will ever see justice.

“I can’t blame the police for not pursuing cases against him when the courts do nothing,” the victim said. Without going into the case to preserve the victim’s anonymity, the person detailed how Mangion had managed to walk away scot free despite evidence clearly linking him to a theft from their home.

The person says they couldn’t understand how Mangion has been able to operate for the better part of two decades without ever facing serious long term convictions.

“He always seems to walk away free,” the person continued. “Just wait and see how he’ll manage to get out of this one.”

Mangion appeared in court yesterday after being caught in video dressed in black running down the street and swearing at the man behind the camera, who repeatedly called him a thief

The video, which showed an alleged attempted theft in the Tal-Virtu area of Rabat, quickly went viral; in a mere couple of days, the video amassed over 150,000 views.

Mangion pled not guilty to the charges of stealing some €20 in cash from a parked Fiat, saying obscene words in public, insulting the man who had chased him after the alleged theft, as well as breaching two bail conditions.

His criminal career spans over a decade, after he had been sentenced to two years in prison back in 2008 after racking up over 20 convictions.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli turned down Mangion’s request for bail.
