The public inquiry report into the December 2022 construction site collapse, which resulted in the death of Jean Paul Sofia, has been finalised, according to the Inquiry Board.

The final report will be presented to the Prime Minister on Wednesday, 28th February at 10 am in his office.

Later in the day, the Board will provide a copy of the final report to Sofia’s family.

The then 20-year-old Sofia tragically lost his life after a factory building under construction in Corradino collapsed on 3rd December, 2022.

The victim had arrived at the building shortly before the incident, intending to take photos of the site to send to the architect.

The tragedy raised public concerns regarding construction site safety, leading Sofia’s mother, Isabelle Bonnici, to demand a public inquiry, a request supported by the Opposition.

The public also supported the mother’s pleas, with over 40,000 individuals signing a petition calling for a public inquiry into the incident.

On 12th July, PN presented a motion in parliament calling for the public inquiry, which all Government MPs voted against.

Following an intense wave of criticism, the Prime Minister announced a change of heart and apologised for not showing solidarity with Sofia’s family.
