At least two Maltese youths have been left in an injured state after a construction chute and a number of balcony bricks became dislodged and fell on them while at work in Żebbug earlier this morning.

A 23-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both from Qormi, were standing under the balcony when the bricks and chute fell. They were working on the balcony itself on Triq Andrew Bogdan as part of their work.

An ambulance was called for immediate assistance and the men were rushed to Mater Dei hospital. The 23-year-old was certified with serious injuries while the other man's condition is as yet unknown.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale has opened an inquiry into the accident.

This work-place accident comes just days after a 47-year-old man was left with grievous injuries when a number of bricks fell on him at work.
