A search for a missing diver has had to be suspended after a shark was spotted swimming in the area close to where the diver was last seen.

Last night, a diver was reported missing in the Ba?ar i?-?ag?aq area. At 6:30 in the morning the search continued for Neil Zammit, the 20-year-old from Paola.

The Armed Forces of Malta started their search for the youth late last night, but had to suspend it due to visibility issues. The search party included a helicopter and a number of patrol boats.

Late today, at around 10:30am, the search had to be suspended due to a shark that was spotted in the area by the circling helicopter. The latter – along with AFM’s patrol boats – carried on with the search, but Net News reported that the rescue swimmers and divers were told to exit the water.
