‘She Did Not Deserve To Die’: Woman’s Body Found With Possible Strangle Marks In Suspected Domestic Violence Case In Paola
A 35-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Paola this morning at 7pm, police have confirmed. The body was reportedly found by her mother, who ran screaming into the streets in a panic, saying that her daughter had been murdered.
She was found to have marks on her neck that indicate strangulation, the Times of Malta reported. Her partner has been taken in for questioning after he arrived on the scene of the death shortly afterwards, carrying the couple’s child.
It is believed the two had a history of domestic violence
It was reported that the woman and the man slept in the same residence Friday evening in Triq F Tortell. Magistrate A. Grima has ordered an inquiry into the death, as well as an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Lara Dimitijevic, a prominent women’s rights campaigner, has condemned the death in a Facebook post:
Shame shame shame!
This should have never happened. She did not deserve to die. We have failed. The state has failed and it’s time that those responsible are held accountable, including authorities that failed to protect.
How can it be that following years of talking about laws that will ensure better protection for women, we had to lose 4 women in less than 4 months!!
Done with empty talks.
