PN Attard Councillor Giorgio Schembri has reprimanded the Transport Ministry for ignoring his and fellow councillor Victor Galea’s pleas to clamp down on speeding along the Central-Link road.

In a strongly-worded social media post Schembri admonished the ministry and claimed that he and his colleague had met with them to request a speed camera to no avail.

“As the Attard Local Council, we have collaborated with various entities that are concerned with roads and transportation in Malta on various issues related to the Central Link Project.”

“We have made progress on other matters regarding the same project, but the most serious problem of speed has not been addressed at all; in fact, I dare say they are disregarding it!”

“They conducted a study on speed, which was confirmed to be excessively high, but for some reason, they said they need to do something first and they continue to drag their feet.”

“I confirm everything that my fellow councillor Victor Galea said about when we unanimously agreed upon and discussed with the Ministry of Transport a few months ago, and were promised that officials from Infrastructure Malta would come to the site – which has not happened.”

Members of the Maltese Government, this is the result of when you IGNORE the elected Councillors in the name of localities in Malta and Gozo!”

Do you agree that steps need to be taken to curb over-speeding after this horrific tragedy?
