SIU Officer Suspended For Suspected Leaks Of Sensitive Information And Use Of Cocaine
A police officer apart of the Special Intervention Unit (SIU) was suspended from his duties after testing positive for cocaine and alleged leaks of sensitive information.
The officer was initially arrested on the suspicion of him leaking information to third parties and having affiliations with drug dealers, Times of Malta reported. The findings promptly resulted in his suspension and release on police bail.
“We’re talking about very dangerous people here who could use that information to harm or stop the officers investigating them,” one source told the news portal, “Leaking sensitive information of this sort to criminals essentially puts our colleagues in potentially very serious danger.”
This case marks another of its kind in the past month, with the most recent being that of Police Sergeant Cherise Camilleri who was also similarly charged with leaking sensitive information, after data from her phone showed she was sharing information about police raids to a third party.
The Police have yet to issue a statement on this case.
