Update: Bus Driver Critically Injured After Nasty Crash On St Julian’s Central Strip
UPDATE: It has since been revealed that the 37-year-old bus driver was critically injured in the crash. The 39-year-old female driver of the van also involved in the crash, meanwhile, was not injured but reportedly suffered a great deal of shock following the nasty accident.
A bus has just crashed in one of Malta’s busiest roads, leading to Monday morning congestion between St. Julian’s and Gżira.
In photos sent to Lovin Malta, the bus can be seen stuck on the central strip on Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli, with extensive damage on the vehicle and a nearby palm tree.
Police confirmed the accident happened just before 10.30am, but not much more information is currently available.
People who were on site confirmed with Lovin Malta that a Red Cross ambulance happened to be passing by on site and was quick to provide assistance. Minutes later, an ambulance from Mater Dei Hospital also arrived, with eyewitnesses telling this newsroom that first aid was still being administered to the bus driver.

The condition of the bus driver is still unknown at this point in time, but Tallinja has confirmed with Lovin Malta that the trip had no passengers onboard at the time of the crash.
Meanwhile, Malta Road Traffic Updates has already urged drivers to use alternative routes as a large traffic jam continues to build up as the road has now been closed following the debris left as a result of the crash.
This is a developing story.
