Stand For Choice: Malta’s Annual Pro-Abortion Rally Happening In Valletta This Saturday
Malta’s annual pro-choice rally is back this Saturday 30th September in Valletta, starting off with a march from Castille Square.
The pro-choice rally has always aimed to make people’s voices heard on the need of introducing abortion and expanding women’s healthcare on the Maltese islands.
“The event starts with a rally departing from Castille Square at 4 pm. We will walk through Valletta and we will gather in front of the law courts where we will have speeches and performances,” the organisers said in a press statement.
The rally is being led by a number of local organisations, forming the Voice for Choice coalition, which directs its efforts to providing safe and legal access to abortion on the islands.
During the demonstration, the Voice for Choice coalition, made up of 14 organisations, will reiterate the call for abortion to be decriminalised, normalised, destigmatised, and made available and accessible locally.
Just last week, a group of pro-choice activists staged a protest in Triton Square, holding placards with words saying “I had an abortion”. The stunt aims to highlight how common abortion is, despite being illegal.
Happening every year since 2019, the rally sheds light on the brutal realities surrounding the still taboo topic of abortion in Malta.
