A street in Sliema will be renamed in honour of the late Robert Arrigo – former PN Deputy Leader and first mayor of the locality, the local council has unanimously decided.

“It is a great honour to have a street in the locality named after the late Honourable Robert Arrigo, where he lived and worked so much as the first Mayor of Sliema,” current mayor John Pillow said.

The new name will replace that of Tigne’ Street between Ċensu Scerri and Sant’Antnin.

The application to change this street was handed over to the government’s Street Naming Committee where it was approved.

Arrigo was the former Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Party (PN) for nearly five years when he died in 2022 at the age of 67.

Prior to his tragic death, he had been undergoing several sessions of chemotherapy in his battle against cancer, with politicians from all sides of the spectrum offering their support to him during that difficult time.
