A Finnish teenager managed to rob €250k from an online casino based in Malta due to a software glitch in the casino’s system. His parents are currently on trial for sharing in on his loot.

Finnish media outlet YLE reported the case as one of aggravated fraud. The teen’s parents are being prosecuted at the Häme District Court. The Malta-based casino was not named in the case.

The teen, who is approaching his 18th birthday discovered the glitch which allowed him to transfer money to an online wallet as he cancelled other customers’ withdrawal requests.

Prosecutors claim that the teen’s parents were accomplices as €14k ended up in his dad’s account, while his mother had €2,300 of stolen money in hers. A €5k motorcycle was also purchased for her with the earnings.

It was reported that he made around 147 withdrawals in just one month before he was discovered by an employee of the casino back in July of 2017.

The prosecution argues that the teen should be punished and they’re requesting a minimum of 20 months behind bars. The father was charged with aggravated money laundering and is currently seeking a five-month suspended sentence. The mother on the other hand has a suspended sentence since she got the short end of the stick.

The ruling is expected to be delivered by next month.
