As we are currently celebrating International Women’s Day, let’s take note of some of Malta’s most promising young women who are already making an impact in their respective fields.

Whether it’s in activism, STEM, the environment or arts, these young change-makers are proving that age has no barrier to make an impact!

1. Cara Borg Aquilina

At just 20 years old, Cara is a law student and an advocate for youth representation. As a Senior Malta United Nations Youth Delegate, she is passionate about civic education, sustainable development, and international diplomacy.

Her journey began at just 14, when she represented Malta abroad in Austria through the Valletta 2018 Cultural Competition. During the pandemic, Cara made headlines by penning an open letter to the Minister for Education, voicing students’ concerns over COVID-19’s impact on O-level exams. Her advocacy continues to inspire young people to raise their voices for change.

2. Mariah Zammit

With a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Psychology, 22-year-old Mariah has spent over seven years immersed in activism, focusing on human rights, mental health, and youth empowerment.

Currently serving as President of the National Youth Council of Malta (KNŻ), she balances activism with leadership, demonstrating that young voices can and should shape policy and change lives. Mariah’s dedication makes her a true role model for aspiring activists.

3. Hailey Ciantar

Hailey wears many hats—she’s an EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassador, a podcast host, and a young farmer. Passionate about sustainability, she collaborates with the European Parliament and sparks conversations on climate action.

Her work in environmental policy and advocacy is helping Malta and the EU to have a greener future, proving that innovative solutions do start with young, determined minds.

4. Jeanine Rodgers Scerri

Jeanine is in journalism, television, and music. Holding a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Journalism from MCAST, she has made a name for herself as a music journalist, actress, producer, and TV presenter.

Her victory on the popular TV show Rolling—which earned her a €10,000 cash prize—cemented her status as a rising star in the entertainment industry.

5. Greta Holland

Greta holds a BA (Hons) in Game Art and Visual Design from MCAST. With a passion for both art and theatre, she brings stories to life through visual experiences.

Her creativity and approach to digital art make her someone you should be looking out for in the future. She is widely recognised for her art, which she regularly shares on her dedicated art account.

6. Amelie Calleja

At just 16, Amelie is already making significant strides in STEM. Studying Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at De La Salle College Sixth Form, she has participated in the Julian’s Pathfinder Tech Start-up Challenges for three consecutive years.

This summer, she attended a space camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Centre in Huntsville, Alabama. Inspired by this experience, she organised space-themed activities for the Malta Girl Guides, helping girls earn their first-ever Space Badge and encouraging them to explore STEM fields.

7. Rhythm Garg

Rhythm, a 16-year-old STEM enthusiast, is advocates for youth representation and a greener future. Aspiring for a career in space science, she believes in giving young people a seat at the decision-making table.

Last year, at just 15, she delivered a powerful speech in Parliament during a session organised by PN MP Eve Borg Bonello. Having moved to Malta as a child due to medical reasons, Rhythm developed a deep appreciation for the Maltese language and culture. She is currently the Direct for Environment at the National Youth Council of Malta (KNŻ).

In May of that year, she was also awarded the Student of the Year at FreeHour’s Youth Awards.

8. Chloë Cauchi

Chloë is a law student, and a public speaking champion. As a Master of Advocacy student, she has held influential roles, such as currently serving as Malta’s United Nations Youth Delegate and as a Board Member of the European Youth Forum.

Her leadership within the Malta Model United Nations Society and the National Youth Council of Malta (KNŻ) show her commitment and dedication to civic engagement and global diplomacy.

These passionate women remind us that determination, passion, and courage has no age limits.
