The Nude Valletta Triton Fountain Climber’s Fun Didn’t Last Too Long
The 24-year-old South African who welcomed the recently-unveiled Triton Fountain in Valletta with a nude climb has been ordered to pay a €1000 euro fine and been handed a three month prison sentence suspended for two years.
A video of Kean Maske, the nude climber, made the rounds last night as people were shocked at the nudist’s brazenness. However, police officers were waiting for the young adult as he descended from the Triton Fountain’s upper basin.
While in court, the man, who works on a yacht, admitted to the offence. He said he had climbed the fountain in the nude as a dare, and had just arrived in Malta and didn’t know how important the fountain was.
However, the courts reacted negatively to this statement, saying videos like this give Malta a bad name.
“The act committed and admitted by the accused is in itself a serious matter, also because it tends to give a wrong impression about what goes on in this land where such acts, especially when committed on public monuments, cannot surely go unnoticed,” Magistrate Aaron Bugeja said.
With police being called in to remove a sunbathing woman just last week, the just-refurbished monument at Malta’s capital city’s entrance could be in for one steamy summer.
