The Malta Police Force have not yet found a popular British artist whose graffiti on the cliffside of the Xlendi Valley sparked social media outrage just over a month ago.
“Kindly note that investigations regarding this case are still ongoing,” a police spokesperson told Lovin Malta. “The Attorney General and Heritage Malta are also assisting in these investigations.”
The graffiti bears the signature of Nathan Bowen, a popular British street artist who has spray-painted graffiti in popular sites in London, including Camden and Oxford Street.
It has been adorning the Xlendi cliffside – which has become a popular tourist hotspot after it was used as the backdrop for Daenerys and Khal Drogo’s wedding scene in the first season of Game of Thrones – since at least last July.

However, it only went viral in late September, following a Facebook post by surgeon and photographer Steve Micallef Eynaud.
Back then, the Gozo Tourism Association decried the artwork as a “clear act of vandalism” and urged people with any information on Bowen to contact the police.
Contacted by the London Evening Standard back then, a spokesperson for the Maltese police confirmed they were investigating the case.
“We want to speak to [Nathan Bowen],” the police said. “We have tried, but we have not been able to find him. We are actively looking for him.”
