There’s A Fake Ira Losco Profile Out There Scamming People
In 2019, no-one is safe from fake accounts, not even Malta’s undisputed queen, Ira Losco.
The Maltese singer and X Factor Malta judge took to Instagram to call out a fake account that was impersonating her, saying that not only was the account chatting to fans about personal and inappropriate things, but was also asking fans for money.
The fake account was using the official photo from her fan page
“Someone has been impersonating me and engaging in conversation with fans, followers and supporters of my music. Some conversations seem personal and are also inappropriate. Some have asked for money, been misleading or even too familiar,” she said in her post.
“I mean this in the nicest way possible,” she continued. “I feel flattered when someone is a big fan and has profiles or pages which celebrate my music. Thank you, I wouldn’t be here without all of you.”
“HOWEVER, it is NOT ON that you take someone’s identity and engage in conversation pretending to be THAT PERSON. You have no right to do that and it is going to land you into a LOT of trouble!” she exclaimed.
“I’ve received at least 10 messages this week telling me fake profiles, pages and also a messenger account have been set up, all with the same profile pic which is the exact same one I’ve got for my fan page. So please take note. Thank you!!” she ended.
Ira Losco is far from the first person to be impersonated on social media
Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne had reported a fake account just months ago, as well as other high-ranking government officials.
So people: If Ira Losco, Joseph Muscat, Adrian Delia or some other major personality randomly reaches out to you, do yourself a favour and actually click on their profile and double check it’s legit.
Otherwise, you are just inviting the trolls.
