Malta’s new University Sports Complex is getting closer to a reality, and part of the plans include a massive 900-space car park. Now, we have an idea of what that will look like.

MaltaToday has published an artist’s impression of what the new University Sports Complex will look like, including the underground car park situated right under the new racetrack.

The University found itself in the midst of controversy last week when it allowed students to park in the sports ground. The reason for this is that there currently are five projects going on at the same time at the university, which led to the closing of a section of parking bays in one of the university’s six car parks.

The Sports Ground car park is currently being used as a temporary solution to the parking issue at the university, and will only be in use for one semester.

The new sports complex is planned to include an eight-lane athletics track, a modern pitch, stadium seating and an indoor running track. Works are scheduled to begin following the end of this scholastic year.

The underground carpark has been included in the plans after the Planning Authority last year asked the university to include parking facilities in the project. It will be shared with the local community.

KSU also came under fire for the most recent developments at the university, as students, environmentalists and athletes came together to voice their concerns.

However, the student organisation has been pushing an alternative modes of transport campaign to incentivise students and staff alike to consider not taking their cars to university.
