‘Together We Are Great’: Maltese Chefs Set Off To Open Beirut Donation Kitchen

Six chefs stationed in Malta have kicked off their journey to Lebanon, where they will be opening a donation kitchen to help feed the Beirut explosion victims.

The team of chefs has collectively raised the sum of €41,000, which will go towards buying the necessary ingredients and equipment.

“We are still receiving donations,” team member Hany Harb said. “When we are back, we will thank each and every one of the donors personally.”

The team, made up of chefs Hany Harb, Zack De Marco, Robert Bonello, Rafel Sammut, Jean Galea Souchet, and Marko Pavlovic, is set to arrive in Lebanon imminently. Following the chefs’ arrival, they will be placed under a short quarantine and then get tested for COVID-19.

As soon as they are given the all clear, the chefs will dive straight into running the donation kitchen.

“We will use the money to buy the food ourselves as soon as we get to Lebanon,” Harb previously told Lovin Malta. “It is safer that way – the country is very corrupt so we don’t want to risk getting scammed.”

The team’s efforts have been widely recognised, with MEP Roberta Metsola taking to Facebook earlier today to commend the initiative.

“Today a team of volunteers and chefs leave Malta for Lebanon to help cook and provide food for all those in need”, Metsola said. “They will be exporting the best of Maltese solidarity and values.“

Harb went on to thank all those that have supported him and his team on this journey.

“Thanking each and everyone who has supported this mission is not enough. Your support is amazing, together we are great.”
