Transport Malta Scraps Tender For Sliema Floating Dock

It will now seek to install the floating dock in a less touristic zone

Transport Malta has backtracked on a plan to install a floating dock in Sliema Creek, close to the Manoel Island Yacht Yard.

The transport authority had recently released a 15-year concession for the operation of a 50 square metre floating dock to service yachts and other boats up to 25 metres in length. The concessionaire was required to provide its own power supply, fresh water supply and storage system, telecommunications facilities and internet services and emergency equipment, to install a concrete block mooring system, eco-friendly flexible dock and adequate signage and to improve lighting of the area. The design had to be “environmentally friendly with minimal negative visual impact”.

The tender was supposed to expire on 23rd February, but was pulled weeks in advance - with a Transport Malta spokesperson explaining that they are exploring potential alternatives for the floating dock in less touristic zones.
